Typical Office Network

The typical office network setup or LAN (local area network) utilizes a single server as a repository for all digital records. A failure in this environment, a malfunctioning server, brings the operation to a grinding halt. Given that most offices have backups and utilize them wisely it may still take hours or days to replace the server and reload all of the programs and data.

Hosted Office

In a hosted environment all applications and data reside in the data center. The data center manages all incoming connections and authorizes users. Applications are delivered to your office from a data center server, one of several application servers configured as a group to provide redundancy. The failure of a server will not prevent you from accessing your data. Likewise data is stored online in a RAID 5 configuration, whereas your data is simultaneously written to 3 hard drives at the same time. The failure of up to 2 hard drives has no impact on your activities. Backups and offline storage are available for disaster recovery. The distributed nature of the hosted desktop and applications allows you to connect from any location. The system can also limit access by IP address to eliminate activity that does not derive from your location.

Maintaining connectivity is critical for accessing your applications. Many critics will point out that if your internet connection is down you will not be able to access your data. While this statement is true a backup plan that consists of either a redundant internet connection from another provider or a cell phone is all that is required to maintain connectivity. Our systems have been tested and run successfully with the computer network connected to a Blackberry, with network service provided by Verizon wireless.
